Deck Review: The Wild Unknown Archetypes

I recently went to my favorite store, Modern Mystic, with the intention to buy a new oracle deck to add to my collection. I scanned through their selection and my eyes lingered on the round cards of Kim Krans newest oracle deck, The Wild Unknown Archetypes.

I flipped through a few of the samples that the shop had selected as the tester cards and thought, this could really help me with my characters for my writing projects and could help deepen my Tarot readings.

Without a second thought, I purchased them.

Tarot has never been afraid to call out the bullshit that you’re hiding from in your life, and these cards are no different.

Feeling deep inside that you’re not happy and you’re not sure why, these cards will tell you without a misstep. I’ve recently been pulling the Death card and the Tower card for one specific situation in my life, and with these archetype cards, for the same situation I pulled the Cave and The Dead End. So, yeah, they work.

I haven’t explored all the spreads she has in her guidebook yet, but one that I have created that I find very informative and spot on is a 3 card "Road to Happiness” spread. It’s a more in your face, yet leads to a positive ending that is less heavy and more optimistic.

The imagery of the cards are beautiful and they definitely give off an energy. I know it’ll be a steep learning curve for me since it took me years to learn the Tarot, but so far my intuition has been pretty spot on in order to deliver a reading without looking at the book. The guidebook descriptions of the cards are absolutely amazing and useful, but I’m trying to intuitively connect to the cards before I learn all the meanings. However, in most cases with Tarot, the guidebook meanings of the cards don’t really enhance the readings. I can say that this guidebook definitely enhances the meanings of the cards and will be very useful to help anyone out of a rut or better understand their situation.

Get this deck. It won’t disappoint.
